Options for Use of Metaphor

Metaphor can be used to focus, direct, or limit the scope of discussion.  It also can be used to facilitate, broaden, stimulate and open up dialog and the thinking that is going on.  Metaphor can stimulate inquiry, curiosity and creativity, co-evolving a frame as dialog progresses.  Once the anatomy of metaphor has been learned, there are various options for using this new-found awareness:
